The pros and cons of standardised testing, focusing on NAPLAN
Standardised tests are a feature of neoliberal educational reform policies in countries around their world, but their value and use remain controversial. In this paper, discussed in Vodcast 3: NAPLAN, Michael Murray examines the pros and cons of standardised testing, with a particular focus on NAPLAN (the literacy and numeracy test used across Australia), and argues the case for greater reliance on quality school-based assessment to monitor the performance of students and schools.
